In 2016, Dale Klapmeier accepted the Joseph T. Nall Safety Award by AOPA for improving safety standards across all facets of aviation through Cirrus Approach™. The NASA Airborne Science Program provides a unique set of NASA supported aircraft that benefit the earth science community. These manned and unmanned aircraft carry the sensors that provide data to support and augment NASA spaceborne missions. Just light differential brake pressures keep the airplane on the straight and narrow. Cirrus calls the systems primary and secondary though the secondary system might also be called the essential bus, running as it does the flight instruments and selected avionics.

Question: Why does the parachute have to be repacked every 10 years?
The SR22T has done away with propeller control and has a fixed 2,500 RPM prop. This is a turbo-normalized variant of the SR22 that allowed the aircraft to fly up to altitudes as high as 25,000 ft. A Tornado Alley Turbo was bolted on and used to maintain sea-level pressure throughout its flight envelope, there were no other performance gains made. This setup put very little strain on the engine in comparison to conventional turbocharging. This package upgrades the size of the Cirrus Perspective+ flight deck’s screen from 10 inches to 12 inches. Additional features include Jeppesen ChartView and SurfaceWatch.
Winter Flying Tips
The SR22 is one of the most capable single-engine aircraft in existence. It’s marketed as a luxury aircraft that can outperform the competition in both safety and performance. Both the Continental IO-550-N engine on the naturally aspirated SR22 and the TSIO-550-K on the turbocharged model have an overhaul time of 2,000 hours. The composites used in the body of the SR22 are not only lighter than conventional materials.
Enforcement Action Against Wing Walking Business Goes Over The Top
Some of those SR20 orders will no doubt move to SR22s as soon as the people savor the airplane with more horses. The deposits are substantial-about 10 percent of the purchase price-and they are neither kept in escrow nor refundable under the terms of the contract. The SR22 is a clean airplane and speed has to be minded on a descent. The airplane is actually as aerodynamically clean as most any retractable, and it has to be treated about the same. No speed brakes are fitted, so descending becomes a matter of managing power and airspeed.

Conversely, once slowed, the SR22 engages no need for special caution or concern about maintaining control, even in the briskest cross winds. Carrying over one of the SR20’s strongest traits, the SR22 can be handled with aplomb, regardless of which end of the envelope you’re flying. With trim controls for all three axes, you can dial the SR22 in to level flight over a broad range of flight conditions.
TOUCHSCREEN CONTROLLERS
And when deployed, the canopy lowers the aircraft at about 1,700 feet per minute. Upon impact at that speed, the landing gear deform first, followed by the controlled crushing of the seats, as designed. The total residual impact force should let passengers walk away — sore, bruised but otherwise unbroken.
The new split-screen capability on the PFD and MFD simultaneously provides up to three separate windows to present all the information you need while in flight. The SR22 is used by flying schools, several air charter and small air taxi carriers, as well as private individuals and companies. Safe Return™ emergency autoland revolutionizes passenger safety and joins CAPS® in creating a total safety solution, exclusive to the Vision Jet. We ushered in a new era in personal transportation with the FAA certification of the Vision Jet. After a long period of priming, common for this installation, the IO-550 started easily.
The use of composites allows the aircraft to be light and fuel-efficient, while still being strong enough to carry high payloads. The body is also designed to have a very low drag coefficient which increases performance and further reduces fuel consumption. Whether you’re new to flying or a seasoned pilot, our team can help you begin your journey. That’s why we created Cirrus Approach™ – a comprehensive training program with your lifestyle in mind.

Plane and Pilot builds on more than 50 years of serving pilots and owners of aircraft with the goal of empowering our readers to improve their knowledge and enthusiasm for aviation. Plane and Pilot expands upon the vast base of knowledge and experience from aviation’s most reputable influencers to inspire, educate, entertain and inform. As the world’s first whole airframe parachute system included as standard equipment, CAPS® has returned over 250+ people to their families. Cirrus stresses that the parachute is to be used as an ejection seat might be used in a jet fighter-a true last resort. It is my opinion that until it is used a few times in actual conditions the parachute is an unknown quantity. Cirrus expects that with the number of airplanes that are out there, and with that number increasing every day, it won’t be too long before chutes start popping and we learn how they work in the real world.
It made contact on the frozen Duluth River, inverted, partially broke though the ice and caught on fire. Positioned around the Phoenix metropolitan area, Scottsdale provides flight training with our expert flight instructors. Nestled in the foothills of the Smoky Mountains, our Vision Center Campus is the hub of our customer experiences, including new aircraft delivery and Vision Jet Type Rating. In 2018, the Vision Jet was awarded the 2017 Robert J. Collier Trophy by the National Aeronautic Association for developing the world’s first single-engine Personal Jet and implementing CAPS on the Vision Jet. Awarded in 2021, the Safe Return autoland system featured on the Vision Jet, was awarded the 2020 Robert J. Collier Trophy.
The Cirrus SR22 is a single-engine four- or five-seat composite aircraft built since 2001 by Cirrus Aircraft of Duluth, Minnesota, United States. Serving the southeast region, Orlando and Kissimmee offer expert personalized flight training in the latest Cirrus aircraft. Convenient for customers in the Dallas Metroplex and beyond, our newest facility offers factory-direct flight training, aircraft management and maintenance. The Vision Jet became the first jet aircraft to be FAA certified with Garmin-powered Safe Return™, allowing passengers to land the jet with just the touch of a button in case of an emergency. The Safe Return autoland system was awarded the 2020 Robert J. Collier Trophy. The capitalization of Cirrus Design is still a work in progress, which is required because the airplanes were still selling for less than they cost to build in the spring of 2001.
The cost of an insurance plan varies due to many factors such as the type and safety record of the aircraft, the area and routes flown, and if the aircraft is used for personal or commercial use. One of the main factors that can drastically affect the cost of an insurance plan is pilot experience. A 2002 model with a total time of 1,751 on the frame, engine, and propeller with one owner and no damage history is priced at $259,900. It might seem strange that this model is priced less than the model above.
The yaw damper enables the autopilot to control the aircraft’s vertical axis, preventing slip and skid to provide a better ride for the occupants and reduce pilot workload. The EVS increases situational awareness by using infrared imaging to provide more information on the MFD such as cloud tops, terrain, etc. The Cirrus SR22-G6 is jam-packed with features in its standard configuration, but Cirrus is known for luxury aircraft that go the extra mile both for passengers and pilots. The manufacturer offers five optional packages that customers add to their aircraft to improve performance and the flying experience. It has everything a general aviation pilot can ask for and more, in terms of performance, comfort, and safety. It’s also beautiful to look at and has been styled like something out of the jetsons.
Ballistic Recovery Systems Inc. (BRS) of South St. Paul, Minn., designed, tested, and certified the CAPS system, and helped Cirrus certify the system in the SR20 and SR22. Once the big display finishes cycling up, you can run through the integral checklist items available. You can also program your flight into one of the Garmin GNS430s and finish the pre-departure checks. The SR20 consumes fuel at just over 11 gallons an hour at cruise, giving the 200-horse airplane a fuel efficiency of about 14.2 nautical miles per gallon at 160 knots. The SR22 uses about 16.7 gallons an hour but gets about 181 knots in return at 8,000 msl — for a rate of about 10.5 nautical miles per gallon.
The visible change involves the addition of an 18-inch extension at each wing tip. The wider span (38′-4″) provides more wing area, to better distribute the higher wing loading and improve initial climb and high-altitude performance. The changes made were small, but improved the quality of the aircraft. A common complaint of the first generation was engine noise and vibration, so Cirrus used six mounting points instead of four. Changes were made to the fuselage to make maintenance easier and the interior was made more comfortable and included shoulder harness airbags as standard.
The wing root fairings were also redesigned to produce less drag and now had LED recognition lights. The dihedral angle of the wings was also increased to improve stability and handling. On the models with the CFIKI package, the amount of fluid held was increased to provide 30 and 15 minutes more flight time in normal and max modes, respectively.
